The Residency Experience

Set on a 40 hectare property north of Mexico City, Cobertizo offers an environment that balances reflection, collaboration, and professional growth. Artists begin their time with a weekend exploring the city’s contemporary art scene, followed by focused studio practice and periodic mentorship sessions. The residency concludes with an Open Studio event that invites the public to engage with the work created on site.

Cobertizo also partners with artist-run spaces and cultural organizations to expand its residency impact. Most recently, the program collaborated with Mass Gallery in Austin on the “Ni de aquí, ni de allá” summer residency, an initiative that brought together Texan and Mexican artists for shared research, dialogue, and creation. The collaboration was highlighted in Glasstire for its cross-cultural exchange and the deep bonds formed between participating artists. The full feature is available here.
